Simpson Desert Crossing Day 5

Day 5 would see us attempting to get to Birdsville so we could spend a day or two in a cabin at the caravan park to watch Bathurst.

The early morning sunrise pic ;)

This was our camping site from the previous night.

And away we went to what would be some more of the same. Whoops, whoops and more whoops.

We arrived at the bigger dunes of the crossing and none bigger than Big Red itself.
Marcus effortlessly drove up it, dropped me off to get some photos of him doing it again, however much to my delight he couldn't get back up it try as he might!

But eventually speed and momentum always wins out.

And not long after Big Red we drove straight into Birdsville, where we did the usual tourist things.

The famous Birdsville Hotel

We grabbed a cabin and watched the top 10 shootout and then went to the pub for a meal.

And that ended our actual desert crossing. It was rough, relentless, hot and millions of flies but a memory we will both hold forever.

Now it was nice to sit back in some luxury in anticipation of the big race.
